What We Did
We had to chose a modern day organism and find at least 4 ancient relatives to the modern day species that we chose. We then had to find the adaptations each relative had and what type of environment the lived in.
Our Final Project
Concepts
- Allopatic Speciation - a species has to develop separately because of something preventing the gene flow
- Sympatric Speciation- a species develops together
- Behavioral Isolation- mating rituals prevents members of the same species from mating
- Temporal Isolation- members of the same species mate at a different time of the year
- Geographical Isolation- a physical barrier that prevents gene flow between a species.
- Reproductive Isolation- members of the same species physically cam not mate.
- Natural Selection- that is the process of an organism developing an advantageous mutation, surviving and being able to pass that trait to their offspring. That trait then becomes an adaption that helps the species survive in their environment.
Reflection
I had a lot of fun working on this project. It was cool to see how much the elephant changed and what adaptations they had that helped them survive in their environment at that time. We were able to compromise well and share ideas with each other, so we both felt valued in the group. Also, both of our ideas were present in the final project, so we were both happy with it. One downfall in this project was that my partner and I did not manage our time well and ended up having to work on the presentation at home.
Next time I should try to manage my time better so we are not scrambling at the very last minute because that makes for a stressful working environment where no one is happy.
