Cheese Lab Write-Up
Contents
- Macro molecules- They are larger molecules that either store energy or provide energy. There are types which are the lipids (fats), carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acids.
- Carbohydrates- Their main function is to create energy and store it for a short amount of time. They are made up of monosaccharides.
- Lipids- They store energy for the long term, create the cell membrane, and are used in signalling other cells. They are primarily made up of fatty acids.
- Nucleic Acids- Their role consists of carrying DNA, which is the information of the cell. They have a sugar-phosphate backbone, and are primarily made up of nucleotides.
- Proteins- They execute everything inside of the cell from transportation of information to the structure to defending against pathogens. They are made up of different combinations of amino acids.
- Osmosis- The movement of water from a high concentration to a low concentration to even out both concentrations.
- Hypertonic- To much water moving out of the cell leaving the inside dehydrated.
- Isotonic- Equal amount of water moving in and out of the cell.
Hypotonic- To much water coming into the cell.
Reflection
In this project I learned about macro molecules and what foods they are in. I learned how to find these different macro molecules in the foods we eat, which I never knew was that simple to find. Our group for the most part was on task and didn't get to distracted, which was good for our overall productivity. I discovered that when I work with motivated people the overall outcome of the project is better.
One thing that was a problem for me in this lab was having to miss the first day of the lab. This made it harder to understand what we were doing since I did not hear the original directions. That showed me how important it is to be able to attend every part of the lab. Another down fall in this project was procrastinating to do the lab write up. This was bad because I had to cram in all in, in the last few days which meant that my writing quality was not the best.
