What We Did
For this project we had to choose two body systems. We had to represent how they work together and what they do independently of each other.
Our group showed the muscular and skeletal system working together by making a model of a leg with the wood representing the bones and the string that moved the "bones" were the muscles. We made a rib cage to show the protective qualities of the bones and we used a piping bag to show the involuntary movement of the smooth muscle on the intestines.

What We Learned
- Muscular System- this system provides bone movement, circulates blood, and provides support for the bones.
- three types of muscle tissues -- skeletal (voluntary movement of the bones), cardiac (heart, pumps blood), and smooth (intestines)
- Skeletal System - This system protects the organs in the body, produces blood cells and provides structure.
- 206 bones in the adult human
- Tissue made up of calcified materials
- Stores calcium

Leg Model
The strings were tied to nails to secure them. The string represents the muscles, however we don't have every muscle in the leg shown because it would require more complex joints. We limited the wood's (bone) movement by using Popsicle sticks to stop it from going to far.

Rib Cage Model
We made the rib cage to show how it is protective of the organs. To test this we hit it with a baseball bat, to show that it would not break.

Smooth Muscle Model
We chose to represent the muscular system with a piping bag because it can push stuff through it non- voluntarily. The person who is putting the pressure on the bag is acting as the smooth muscle, the bag is acting as the intestine, and the frosting is the stuff inside of the intestines.
Reflection
This project was a lot of fun to work on. We all worked together really well. That made the environment more comfortable, so it was easier for me to share my ideas with the others. I learned a lot about the human body and how all of functions key to our survival work together. Not only did I learn about the two body systems that I worked on I was able to learn a great deal from the other groups who had different combinations of body systems.
One challenges in the project was that it was hard to all work on a piece (i.e. leg, rib cage) because the pieces were small/ there was not a lot of work to do on each part. To avoid this in the future, we can try to equally divide the tasks between the group members.
